The Gift of Showing Up

April is National Volunteer Month. It’s an intentional time set apart to recognize the extraordinary impact of those who give their time, energy, and care in service to others.

Across the country and in our own community, volunteers are the quiet force that makes so much of this work possible.

This year, that gift feels especially meaningful.

We’re living in a season marked by complexity – locally, nationally, and globally. Many of our neighbors are navigating rising costs, uncertainty, and the weight of challenges that can feel persistent and overwhelming. In moments like these, it can be easy to turn inward. And yet, what we see every day at CRC is the opposite.

We see people showing up.

Volunteerism is more than service. It’s an expression of self-giving love. It is the quiet decision to step toward someone else’s need with compassion, dignity, and presence. Volunteers remind us that even in uncertain times, we’re not alone. We’re seen, supported, and capable of caring for one another in ways that express the best of our humanity.

At CRC, volunteers are woven into every part of our mission. They help ensure our neighbors have access to healthy food, stable homes, and safe relationships. They extend the reach of our staff, amplify our impact, and strengthen the fabric of our community. Quite simply, we could not do this work without them.

But beyond what volunteers do, it’s what they represent that makes their gift feel especially meaningful.

Volunteers create momentum. Each act of generosity, each hour given, each moment of kindness moves us closer to the world we are working to build. A world marked by peace, hope, and communities where everyone has access to the resources they need to live with dignity.

This month, we pause to say thank you to our volunteers for the hours given and the spirit behind them. You’re a powerful reminder that the light of compassion continues to shine – and that light keeps growing because of you.
