Sophia’s Story

Sophia is a foster mother of two – a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old with medical complexities – who also shares her home with her sister-in-law and family. Like many families in our region, they live on a tight budget, and rising grocery prices have made it even harder to keep nutritious food on the table.

Sophia turns to CRC’s Food & Nutrition Center for support – a client-choice pantry that empowers neighbors to select groceries they need for their family.

Sophia shared that being low income makes it difficult to afford basic needs and the groceries she receives through CRC help her stretch her budget and keep her entire household nourished.

“The food and nutrition center is very helpful to be able to put food on our table, especially with the food prices going up so high. What may seem like a small donation makes a huge difference to us being low income. Even the diapers have helped a lot. I’m very thankful for it.

Another help is the Holiday Baskets Program. I have participated in that and it’s been such a relief to be able to not only give the kids toys and clothing, but also to get household supplies as well.”

CRC’s Food and Nutrition Program is a pathway to stability. On average, CRC serves over 600 people per month through the Food & Nutrition Center. The support helps neighbors prevent hunger and redirect limited income to critical expenses like rent and medical care.
