5 Ways to Help During Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month

If you need food assistance, please visit our Food & Nutrition Center page to learn more.

Hunger is on the rise in San Diego County due to COVID-19. Join Community Resource Center this September for Hunger Action Month to stand together with the Feeding America network to fight hunger. It’s a month to spread the word and take action on the hunger crisis — and dedicate ourselves to a solution. Together, we can achieve a hunger-free and healthy San Diego.

Here are five ways you can take action now to fight hunger in our own community:

1. Raise awareness

One in seven of our neighbors don’t know where their next meal is coming from and one in five children are food insecure in San Diego County. The pandemic has elevated hunger in our region and many may be in need of food assistance for the first time.

  • Join us for Hunger Action Day on Thursday, September 10, by sharing our social media post below to help raise awareness about hunger in San Diego. You can share on Hunger Action Day or any day in September to invite your followers to take action.
  • Learn more about hunger and food insecurity in San Diego from our partners at the San Diego Hunger Coalition.

2. Fundraise for Hunger Action Month

Invite your friends and family to join in the fight to end hunger by donating to Community Resource Center. Starting a fundraiser on Facebook takes just a few minutes but goes a long way to help families in need. Start a fundraiser for CRC on Facebook or contact us if you’d like to start a fundraiser at your organization.

3. Host a Food Drive

Host a food drive to help keep our food pantry stocked with the item families in our community need most. You can hold a socially-distanced food drive in your neighborhood or create a virtual food drive!

4. Donate

Our bulk purchasing power allows us to stretch every dollar into more meals. Your donation can help meet the needs of hundreds of families who visit our Food & Nutrition Center monthly. You can also purchase items from our Amazon Wish List (use Amazon Smile to support CRC).
