Press Release: Food Assistance Available at CRC

FOOD ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE AT COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

Encinitas, CA, January 18, 2019—Community Resource Center (CRC) encourages those affected by the partial shutdown of the federal government to visit the Center for food assistance. CRC’s Food & Nutrition Center provides those in need with emergency food and individuals can also meet with CRC’s case managers to apply for assistance through CalFresh, a program that provides families with money for groceries.

Community Resource Center’s Food & Nutrition Center is a gold-certified nutrition pantry and a partner of Feeding San Diego and the San Diego Food Bank. CRC distributes over 480,000 pounds of rescued food annually, an essential resource for 400 monthly participants, including families, seniors and individuals experiencing homelessness.

CRC’s executive director, John Van Cleef, says, “No one should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from. For 40 years, Community Resource Center has provided food and resources to those in our community suffering from food insecurity, and we’re here now to help anyone impacted by the ongoing shutdown. We are here as a resource to anyone in San Diego who needs a helping hand.”

To receive emergency food and assistance, contact Community Resource Center at (760) 753-8300 or visit in person at 650 Second St., Encinitas. CRC’s Food & Nutrition Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

To help keep CRC’s shelves stocked, you can donate online at crcncc.org/donate or bring donations to CRC’s Food & Nutrition Center during operating hours. Currently, the most-needed items are pasta, canned fruit, shelf-stable milk, oatmeal and personal care items such as shampoo/conditioner and soap.
