1 in 4 San Diegans don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
As we approach World Hunger Day on May 28, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the stark reality of food insecurity faced by millions of people worldwide. It’s also important to recognize that the starving grip of food insecurity is a local issue from which our communities are not exempt.
As the CEO of Community Resource Center, I’m deeply invested in combating this issue and ensuring that no one in our communities goes to bed hungry.
1 in 4 San Diegans don’t know where their next meal is coming from (San Diego Hunger Coalition), and we’re seeing this reality firsthand at Community Resource Center. In 2023, CRC served 1,924 households through our Food & Nutrition Center – which is 43% more individuals than 2022.
These numbers are not just statistics; they represent real people in our community who rely on CRC for their next meal.
That’s why I’m also using this blog as a call to action for everyone in our community who can join us in the fight against hunger. Your contribution – whether it’s a monetary donation, non-perishable food items, or volunteering your time – makes a world of difference to a person in need.
Together, we can ensure that everyone in our communities has access to nutritious food and the support they need to create a brighter future and thrive.
