Facing Uncertainty, Sustaining Hope
Budget cuts. Policy shifts. Economic uncertainty. This is a time when community support matters most for our neighbors.
Proposed reductions to Medicaid, CalFresh (SNAP), housing assistance, victim services and emergency and transitional shelter programs could strip away lifelines that families, seniors and survivors of abuse depend on to survive and rebuild. Here’s how these changes are affecting our neighbors:
- An estimated 400,000 San Diegans risk losing Medi-Cal and CalFresh benefits, forcing them to choose between rent, groceries and vital medications, with the increased risk of homelessness. Already, 1 in 4 neighbors don’t have enough to eat tonight, with food insecurity back at pandemic levels.
- Future cuts to our critical programs, like victim services and Housing First, could leave survivors and vulnerable families without safe shelter or resources to rebuild.
No one should have to choose between paying rent and feeding their kids, or between groceries and critical care. Yet these are the impossible decisions that more of our neighbors will face if federal support declines.
