Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

If you need help: Call Community Resource Center’s 24/7 Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-877-633-1112. If you are in danger, call 911.

Domestic violence was a problem long before COVID-19, but isolating at home has caused an increase of abuse. The impact of COVID-19 has made the need for support and services for those experiencing domestic abuse more critical than ever. Join us throughout the month of October to raise awareness by sharing information that can help those who are experiencing violence in their relationships. Because for them, staying home isn’t safe.

What you can do:

  • Connect people to help:  Reach out and do it in a way that is safe for them.  So be sure to ask because for some, text is best, for others, a call or messaging through, for example, an online game is best since the abusive partner may not look there. If you or someone you know is being abused contact the CRC Domestic Violence Hotline at: (877) 633-1112.
  • Believe:  Reassure them they are not alone and you will be there for them.  Your ongoing support is so important to isolated people.
  • Safety Plan:  Help them think through what dangerous situations may arise and how they might respond.  Also encourage them to call a hotline – CRC’s Domestic Violence Hotline at (877) 633-1112 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline  at (800) 799-7233.  Advocates are there to help.
  • Share: Share CRC’s video that contains information on resources … the more people who know about our programs, the more people we can help. You can also share our social media post below to spread the word.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic Violence is a pattern of abusive behaviors in a romantic or intimate relationship that is intended to establish an unequal balance of power and control. Domestic violence is an epidemic, affecting people in every community regardless of age, economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality.

Every 9 seconds, a woman is assaulted or beaten in the United States. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence)
