For the first time in over a year, Vanessa and her family have a safe place to call home … together.
Vanessa, a single mother of two, fled an abusive relationship and had nowhere to turn. She found temporary housing at a domestic violence shelter, but lost custody of her four-year-old child. Vanessa was referred to Community Resource Center for help obtaining a safe apartment so that she could be reunited with her youngest child.
During this time, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Vanessa was also laid off from her job. She said, “I was helpless and no one wanted to rent to me. I was feeling hopeless.”
Vanessa worked with CRC to find an apartment and receive rental assistance, food and essentials for her new home.
“When I got my keys it was so exciting because I haven’t had my own home in over a year,” Vanessa said. “CRC is a great resource for people that really need help. If you really want it, there’s nothing that’s impossible.”
Thank you to our supporters for helping single moms like Vanessa be safe at home during this challenging time.
Many people in our community will need help for many months during their recovery from the pandemic. CRC supporters help ensure that we have the resources to help with food, shelter and housing when our neighbors come to us in need.
