Sarah’s Story | Homelessness Prevention & Intervention

“I’m on my way home right now …”

Sarah was homeless for over six months after fleeing an abusive relationship. When she left her abuser, Sarah had to live in her car for three months and then stayed at Operation Hope, a shelter in Vista. While at the shelter, Sarah learned about Community Resource Center.

“It was right at the time I needed it the most,” Sarah said. “It was my chance to get out of the shelter and into a home.”

Sarah met with a CRC Case Manager, Chad, who helped Sarah receive Rapid Rehousing to provide the deposit and short-term rental assistance for an apartment in North County. She also was able to utilize the food and nutrition resources at CRC. Sarah is a caretaker and is working with Chad to also obtain part-time employment to supplement her income.

Sarah says she is grateful to CRC for helping her get back on her feet.

“CRC is wonderful. My case managers made the whole experience go so smoothly,” Sarah said.

Sarah was so excited to move in to her new apartment. On move-in day she said, “I’ve had a lot of happy tears today. I’m on my way home right now!”
