Paula and her son came to Community Resource center on a referral through the CalWorks program. She had been stuck in an environment of abuse, which she knew set a precarious precedent for her young child.
Through our Integrative Services programs, Paula was able to start on her journey towards self-sufficiency by obtaining a temporary position in one of our Resale Stores. This connection allowed her to obtain vital job skills in customer service, an opportunity which her controlling partner had previously denied.
Paula continued to receive services through CRC by working with her case manager, Laura. While initially referred for just one program, Paula eventually utilized many other CRC programs; food, hygiene items, gas cards to go to and from job interviews, and our Holiday Baskets Program which gave her the ability to provide her son with a Holiday experience.
“There’s a lot of hope. I didn’t have hope for years. I was stuck thinking that this was where I belong. I had no motivation to move on. I finally got it.”
Paula has some advice for other moms who find themselves in a place they don’t want to be in:
“There are resources out there that can guide you in the right direction to get the help you need. Life is really beautiful. It is much more beautiful today than it has been in a long time.”
Paula is one single mom who was able to find her pathway to safety, stability, and self sufficiency through the care and compassion of a guide from Community Resource Center. There are many more like her who we have yet to reach.
