Series 2: Meet Your Unhoused Neighbor
Welcome to the first in our series, “Meet Your Unhoused Neighbor”
This is a monthly series where you will meet some of our program participants as they share their housing needs and journeys.
Matthew* has been experiencing homelessness in Encinitas for the last 3 years & connected with CRC this past August. Matthew works full time at a local communications company & clocks as many overtime hours as he can. He is also a barber & currently enrolled in a massage therapy program. He is hopeful about his future & is actively working with his case manager to improve his credit.
His ideal housing situation would be a one bedroom in Oceanside. When asked what would make him an excellent tenant, Matthew shares he is respectful and will make sure to take care of the property. Matthew, like so many of us, wants a space of his own to enjoy some calm and quiet after a long days’ worth of work.
Rising housing costs, low vacancy rates, & the drop in construction of new housing of all types and at all affordability levels have significantly affected San Diego County’s housing landscape. We hope our community will help us identify available housing opportunities. If you have a room for rent or rental property, contact us at housingnavigation@crcncc.org. We’d love to talk to you about our different housing programs and how to best support our unhoused neighbors.
*In respect of client privacy, the name and photo is changed. More information will be made available in the event you are interested in providing housing assistance.
