July Volunteer of the Month: Diane Root

Our July Volunteer of the Month is Diane Root, nominated by Mary Cunningham at the San Marcos Resale Store. Mary says:

“Diane is a lifesaver! She helps wherever its needed and works hard to help the store. All of our customers love her!”

Diane is carrying on the legacy of her late father, Fred Flihan, who was a long-time volunteer at Community Resource Center. You may have heard about Fred without realizing it, as part of our “Keep CRC Truckin” campaign to replace one of our delivery trucks named Fred. Fred was named in honor of Diane’s father.

Fred volunteered at CRC for many years as a handyman and helped make renovations at our domestic violence shelter and transitional housing. He also helped drive our delivery truck and pick up food and donations throughout the year and especially during Holiday Baskets.

Sadly, Fred passed away last year. He will be remembered by many CRC staff, clients and supporters, especially those who volunteered for Holiday Baskets.

Not only does this highlight the value of our volunteers, it shows that a heart of service can pass down generations.

Congratulations, Diane! All of your hard work and dedication helps CRC care for those in need!
