Encinitas, Calif.— Holiday Baskets, an annual event held by Community Resource Center (CRC), has set a goal to help more than 1,000 households (2,000+ children) in need this year with food, toys and household necessities. Last year, Holiday Baskets distributed more than 60 tons of items with the sup- port of 1,000 volunteers and 200 businesses. This year’s event is set for Saturday, December 17 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Households register in advance to participate in Holiday Baskets and must meet income requirements and reside in San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach or Del Mar.
Donations Needed to Help Families for the Holidays
“There are so many ways you can help us make dreams a reality this holiday season,” stated Isabel St.Germain Singh, chief executive officer of CRC. “If everyone contributes what they are able, we can meet the needs and brighten the holidays for so many families in our community. We really need your support to reach our goal.”
In order to help so many families and children, community action is critical:
- Event Sponsorships: The success of Holiday Baskets depends on the many volunteers and donations of goods, but CRC also needs the support of sponsors and donors to offset Holiday Baskets expenses and fund their year-round programs that support struggling families in North County San Diego. Holiday Baskets sponsorships are available and can give organizations great recognition in affiliation with this amazing event.
- Making a cash donation: A $100 donation will give a family a balanced, nutritious food pack- age that will help feed four for a week. Cash donations, in lieu of direct food donations, allow CRC to multiply the impact because CRC can purchase food in bulk at prices much lower than store prices.
- Donating: new toys, new or gently-used bicycles, non-perishable food staples, new or gently- used winter coats and jackets, new items for babies. A wish list is provided on the CRC website.
- Hosting a fundraiser or volunteer: At work, at church, at school, in your neighborhood – col- lect donated goods, raise funds or sell Turkey Tickets or Bicycle Bucks to provide holiday meals and bikes.
