13 Years of Support for Survivors of Domestic Violence
We are grateful to Exposure Skate for their 13 years of commitment to supporting survivors of domestic violence. This year, Exposure’s annual skateboarding competition raised $6,000 in support of Community Resource Center’s domestic violence programs.
Held on November 2-3 at Encinitas Community Park, Exposure Skate is the world’s largest skateboarding event for women and nonbinary skaters, and featured competitions, learn-to-skate clinics and a vendor village. Proceeds from the event support CRC’s domestic violence programs, providing essential resources for survivors, including emergency shelter, counseling, and housing assistance.
This year, Exposure Skate was also broadcast live on X Games, amplifying awareness of domestic violence prevention.
Carol Cianfarani, a leader in domestic violence advocacy and instrumental in the development of CRC’s Carol’s House, spoke on Sunday, sharing the impact of Exposure Skate’s support:
“They’re the lifesavers. The funds they’ve donated to Carol’s House have helped so much, from supporting women and children to providing counseling. And what they do to help the little ones get self-esteem so they don’t get into situations as they get older where they need Carol’s House.
What’s so critical is people don’t know how pervasive domestic violence is, and what I found as I got involved in this, is that everyone knows someone who has been a victim of domestic violence.”
Amelia Brodka, president, executive director and co-founder of Exposure Skate, shared the importance of raising awareness of domestic violence:
“It really means a lot because [domestic violence] is not an issue that’s often talked about … Awareness is part of the solution. It really means a lot to be able to just spread the word and let people know that there are resources for them. Because no one should feel unsafe in their own home. No one should be afraid that their children’s lives are at risk. No one should have to equate love with pain. It’s an honor for us to have Carol here and to continue raising funding and awareness for survivors of domestic violence.”
This inspiring partnership between Exposure Skate and CRC highlights the power of community engagement in creating safe, stable futures for survivors. From empowering individuals through skateboarding to raising essential funds, Exposure Skate is making a real difference. Thank you to the Exposure Skate team and congratulations to all of the skating competitors!
