Fill a Bag to Help Stamp Out Hunger for Local Families in Need

Community Resource Center to receive donations from the largest, single-day food drive in the nation

Encinitas, CA, May 3, 2019—On Saturday, May 11, the National Association of Letter Carriers will host the 27th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the largest, single-day food drive in the nation. Community Resource Center (CRC) will receive food collected by letter carriers at the Encinitas and Solana Beach post offices. CRC distributes over 480,000 pounds of food annually, an essential resource for 450 monthly participants, including families, seniors and individuals experiencing homelessness. Items received during Stamp Out Hunger can help CRC stock their food shelves for over six months.

A request for support: The community can help by placing non-perishable food donations (in a bag, or the bag provided by your postal carrier) by your mailbox before mail delivery on Saturday, May 11 for letter carrier delivery to local food banks. Donation options include healthy, non-perishable items such as pasta, cereal, oatmeal, canola oil, peanut butter, canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned tuna, canned soup and more. You can also donate towards CRC’s Virtual Food Drive by texting POSTALDRIVE to 71777.

CRC’s executive director, John Van Cleef, says, “Stamp Out Hunger is one of the most important food drives of the year – we depend on the food collected to restock our shelves for the coming months. One in seven of our neighbors don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Please participate and help meet the needs of the hungry, homeless and hurting in our community.”

Community Resource Center’s Food & Nutrition Center is a gold-certified nutrition pantry and a partner of Feeding San Diego and the San Diego Food Bank. To receive emergency food and assistance, please call (760) 753-8300 or visit in person at 650 Second St., Encinitas. CRC’s Food & Nutrition Center is open Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
