Individual Volunteering

Individual volunteer sign-ups are now available! During open scheduling, you may sign up online using our 2019 Holiday Baskets Application. This will make the full schedule of volunteer opportunities available to you and you will be able to sign up for the shifts that you can commit to. Groups of 1-4 need to fill out individual applications in order to have waivers on file.

Once you have filled out your application, you can self-schedule at this link.  Check out the FAQ section for more details!

Group Volunteering

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with your group of 5 or more! Our Holiday Baskets sponsors receive priority group volunteering scheduling. The 2019 Holiday Baskets Group Application is available now. We will process your application and note your volunteer preference.  Our scheduling captain will reach out to discuss time and date slots with you. You can also complete our online waiver at this link.

Once you have filled out your application, you can self-schedule at this link.  Check out the FAQ section for more details!

Youth Volunteering

CRC values youth and the incredible impact they can have in their community. Holiday Baskets is a rewarding and fun way to get involved! However, in order to create the safest experience for our youth volunteers, we have a limited number of spots available to our younger philanthropists and have a policy in place outlining age requirements.

Age 6-10 may volunteer with a parent (1 to 1 ratio) and a signed parent waiver
Age 11-13 may volunteer with an adult at a 1 adult to 5 youth ratio and a signed parent waiver
Age 14-17 may volunteer as an individual with a signed parent waiver
Groups aged 14-17 need to have a minimum 1 responsible adult overseeing them and must bring signed parent waivers.

Groups of younger volunteers may inquire about special opportunities for shorter volunteer slots, and for tours of Holiday Baskets. There are limited spaces for these. We encourage groups to consider supporting Holiday Baskets by hosting a drive or fundraising event.

Volunteering Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Holiday Baskets?

Holiday Baskets takes place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Grandstand, located at:

2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, CA 92014

Directions:

ENTER AT SOLANA GATE From I-5, exit Via de la Valle. Go west and continue on Via de la Valle for .5 mi. Turn left at the SOLANA GATE entrance off Via de la Valle. How do I check in for a volunteer shift?

All volunteers must report for their shift to our volunteer check in table. Our wonderful check-in team will ensure that you have a waiver, a parent-waiver (if under 18) and that you are signed in for your shift. At the check in table you will receive a name tag to fill in and directions to your volunteer assignment. There may be a candy cane treat waiting there as well! During pre-distribution (December 6-12), the check-in tables will be on the North side adjacent to the race track. During distribution (December 13-15), the Volunteer Check in tables will be on the South entrance to the grandstand area in front of the fountain.

What about a waiver?

ALL volunteers must have a waiver on file with CRC. There are several options:

  • Every volunteer who fills out an INDIVIDUAL application must digitally agree to our waiver terms in order to submit the application. If you have a Holiday Baskets application on file with us, you automatically have a waiver on file as well.
  • Groups of 1-4 need to fill out individual applications in order to have waivers on file.
  • Individual and Parent Waivers are available online at this link. If you or your child (under 18) is part of a group and have not filled out an individual application, you must fill out a waiver in advance.
  • We will have the online waiver available on site as well as a small number of paper waivers available for adult groups.

What types of Holiday Baskets volunteer opportunities are there?

Open (self) scheduling will be available beginning November 1, 2019.  There are many ways to volunteer for Holiday Baskets!

December 5 and 6 – Move-in Days at the Del Mar Fair Grounds (not suitable for youth under 14): Unloading our trucks, clearing out the Fairgrounds Equipment, setting up the different department areas such as food, toys, bicycles, etc.

December 7-13 – Pre-Distribution from 9 am – 8 pm:  Bike Repair, Food Sorting, Other Donations Sorting, Food-Box Packing and more.

December 13, 14 & 15: Distribution Days: This is when families and individuals come and experience Holiday Baskets, selecting food, necessities and gifts for the holidays.

How do I sign up for a volunteer shift?

Step 1: Apply online using either an Individual (1-4 people) or a Group (more than 5 people) Holiday Baskets 2019 application. Here you will create your login and password for your volunteer account.

Step 2: Sign up for a volunteer shift (self-schedule). Go to the volunteer portal here. It will ask for your login name (your email) and the password you set when you filled out the application. Once in the portal, click “My Schedule” and then go to the month of December. All dates with openings will show a “Help Needed” icon. Click on the date you want and then proceed to sign up for the shifts you want!

What should I wear to my shift?

The Del Mar Fairgrounds Grandstand can be very cold, even when it is warm outside. Wear layers and closed toed shoes for safety reasons. Wear clothes that are free of offensive words or graphics, as you will be representing Community Resource Center.
