Celebrating Life

Why is Thanksgiving so important?

A skeptic might tell you Thanksgiving is for guilt free gluttony – celebrated with gratitude for elastic waistbands and football naps.

But our more noble nature points toward something more:

When we gather for Thanksgiving, we celebrate our whole life… Our challenge is to say thank you for the whole mess: the things we welcome and the things unwelcome. (Barbara Brown Taylor)

This is why Thanksgiving is so important. It’s not a day, it’s a life. It’s not an event, it’s an attitude. It’s not a word, it’s a virtue that makes us aware of the gifts we receive every day; and moves us to respond to these gifts by putting them to the service of others.

Happy Thanksgiving!
