Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile… or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around
– Leo Buscaglia
The month of April is often associated with spring, the time of year when the cold winter – though not so cold in our neighborhood – gives way to warm sun and new growth. It is also observed as Global Volunteer Appreciation Month, and I think this creates a lovely connection to the lived experience and symbolism of spring.
Every day, Community Resource Center is blessed by the presence of volunteers who represent a diverse cross section of our community – individuals, service organizations, faith communities, students, professionals, and the list goes on. They offer different skills and time commitments, and support a variety of different activities.
Whoever they are, however they serve, whatever they do, volunteers bring the same gift. It’s not time. Though volunteers do give their time, the time they give is the conduit of their gift.
Volunteers give the gift of themselves – their priceless, transcendent, imperishable selves – in loving service to others. This gift has not only the potential to turn a life around, it creates transformation in the lives of people who are hungry, homeless and hurting in just the same way winter rain waters the earth so spring flowers can grow in the warm sun.
Thank you, CRC Volunteers, for sharing the gift of your heart.
