CRC Selected as Nonprofit of the Year

Making Life Beautiful for Others

“There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.” – Mandy Hale

When I think about the honor of being selected by Assemblywoman Boerner Horvath as the District 76 Nonprofit Organization of the Year, I think about the past year. I think of enduring a global pandemic and the collective movement to address racial justice in our nation, and I’m mindful of the ongoing work to address these issues. I think about the best-in-class organizations we collaborate with to help people in need, and I’m humbled by the recognition.

But most of all I think about CRC’s staff and volunteers, and I’m inspired. They showed up day after day in the face of an unknown virus that was highly infectious and potentially lethal. They prioritized compassion for people experiencing hunger, homeless and relationship violence over their personal comfort. They absorbed a heavier workload because the essential needs of their neighbors required it. They went out of their way to make life more beautiful for others.

An organization is defined by its people – who they are and how they show up. I am grateful for the compassionate people who are the heart of Community Resource Center – volunteers, staff and community supporters – who show up to help their neighbors create paths to healthy food, stable homes and safe relationships.
