Get Involved
Community Resource Center is fortunate to have the privilege of working with almost 3,000 volunteers every year who are committed to serving the community. Volunteers play a crucial part in the daily operations of Community Resource Center and can be found assisting is almost every aspect of the agency. Volunteers include interns from area universities working as case managers in the social services office or counselors at our Children’s Therapeutic Center or counseling office.
Volunteers are the heart of our food program and are responsible for picking up daily donations from area stores and passing the food out in our bread room.
Volunteers also make our annual fundraisers a success by assisting in the planning, set-up and execution of our Gala, English Tea, Garden Tour and Holiday Baskets.
Volunteers do much more and new opportunities come up all the time.
Requirements
Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and have turned in a completed volunteer application. After a volunteer application is turned in, it takes an average of 48 hours for the volunteer coordinator to contact you and schedule you for your first day of service. Some volunteers may require an in-person interview with either the volunteer coordinator or another program coordinator. This includes all court-mandated volunteers and all volunteers interested in assisting in any of Community Resource Center’s domestic violence programs.
Thrift Store Volunteers
Thrift store volunteers must be at least 14 years old and able to stand for at least 2 hours at a time. Tasks include unloading and loading cars, lifting boxes, moving furniture, cleaning, merchandising and taking out the trash. Some volunteers may even be promoted to ringing up sales on the cash register. The thrift store is a great place to volunteer if you enjoy being busy and helping others. The thrift stores is also a great place for volunteers who have just a few hours to complete for a school or court requirement.
Internships
Internships are available in our social services, children’s center and counseling departments. All interns are required to make a commitment for at least one semester. Interns will be subject to background check, finger printing and TB test before they can begin.
Service Learning
Community Resource Center strongly believes in Service Learning and we are constantly surprised by the inventive ideas students come up with to complete their service learning requirements and assist CRC at the same time. Some ideas have included various food drives, landscaping and renovation projects. We encourage students to repeat past projects or come up with new ideas. We are always open to suggestions.
Holiday Baskets
Volunteers make Holiday Baskets possible. Volunteers are responsible for the collections and set up of food, outerwear, blankets, toys and baby items for over 1000 families every December. Volunteers should be at least 12 years old. We have to have older volunteers due to safety and supervisory concerns. Don’t worry--there are opportunities for the younger volunteers too. Community Resource Center staff conducts tours to younger groups so that they develop an understanding of the value of Holiday Baskets.
